The implications of this image for cultural studies is based on the idea of the signifier and the signified.The connotation from this image would imply that it is a pipe, but, it is merely a signifier of the signified. Social construction implies that this is a pipe, when in fact it is a representation of a pipe. This pipe is a signifier which is a symbol which in turn represents the signified. The signifier is the physical aspect, a painting of a pipe, representing the signified, the cultural aspect since from the product fo social construction, this object is signified as a pipe.
